Jardineros Rally Past Bizantinos for 1-0 Series Lead
The Maracay Jardineros powered past the visiting Coro Bizantinos, 9-8, in the opener of the Serie Preliminar at Jardines de Maracay. Maracay second baseman Nicanor Gámez went 4-4 with a triple, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3, to lead the charge. The Jardineros now lead the series 1-0.

Juan Quiñones was the walk-off hero for Maracay. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Jardineros first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Maracay manager Alberto Méndez told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Jardines de Maracay in Maracay.
