Pidgin Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Monday, July 13th , 1914 The 5th time is the charm -- at least for Sam Pidgin. The catcher for the Nacogdoches Roaches hit the milestone against the Beaumont Alpinists, helping his club to a narrow 4-3 victory. Pidgin finished with a 5-for-7 line at the plate. "Pidgin was a tough out," Beaumont manager Radamés Marqués told the press in the postgame interview. "If it weren't for him, I think we had this one." Sam Pidgin doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, flied out in the 8th, singled in the 10th, singled in the 12th and singled in the 14th.
