Killer Cacti Blank Santa Fe, Martínez Winner
Tuesday, September 8th , 1914
Rafael Martínez of the San Angelo Killer Cacti spun his magic on the Santa Fe Hollyhocks. He blanked them, 6-0, on 9 hits, registering 6 strikeouts and no walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Martínez said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, San Angelo skipper Disibodo Aquino said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."
"Rafael pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.
Martínez has made 7 starts so far this year and put up a 4-3 won-lost record with a 3.71 ERA. In 63 innings he has allowed 67 hits, walked 10 and struck out 36.
