Providence No Match for Díaz Saturday, August 1st , 1914 Woonsocket Foxes starter Amador Díaz really did a number on the Providence Gems, shutting them out, 1-0, on 9 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 1 walk and had 9 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said Providence manager George Bechtel. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Díaz."
