Burlington Sweeps into the Pennant Championship Series Sunday, August 23rd , 1914 The Burlington Lightermen proved to be too much to handle for the Brattleboro Melodeons in the Division Series, and a sweep was the end result. Burlington punched its ticket to the Pennant Championship Series on the strength of a 9-2 win in the deciding game, which wrapped up the series 4-0. Burlington first baseman Oliver Alexander, named series MVP, was instrumental in the sweep, as he mashed Brattleboro pitching to the tune of a .556 average, with a .556 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 5 runs. The Burlington Lightermen don't know who they will face in the next round.
