Salas Goes on Rampage Against Blast Furnaces Tuesday, August 11th , 1914 Vicente Salas was a tough out and went 5-for-8 in a fine hitting display, but the Gary Blast Furnaces managed to overcome his performance and top the Holland Tulips, 11-9. "I got my pitches and I connected," Salas said. "They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody, and some days they fall in. And some days you lose, no matter how well you play." On this occasion, Salas played well enough to get his name in the record books. Vicente Salas struck out in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th, doubled in the 11th, flied out in the 13th and hit an RBI double in the 15th. This season, Salas has posted a batting average of .292 with 54 hits in 185 at-bats, 2 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has also scored 21 runs, walked 20 times and compiled a .362 OBP.
