21-Game Streak Ends, García Hitless Friday, September 4th , 1914 For 21 straight games, Esteban García tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 29-year-old Oswego Hydropathists catcher can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Rochester Lilac Stockings. The Lilac Stockings held him hitless in 3 at-bats at Perennial Blooming Park and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Hydropathists took the win by the score of 6-2. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." García is batting .381 with 4 home runs and 28 RBIs this season. |
