Phyle Too Tough, Blanks Gary Thursday, September 17th , 1914 Sheboygan Brats starter Bill Phyle really did a number on the Gary Blast Furnaces, shutting them out, 1-0, on 4 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 1 walk and had 4 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said Gary manager Charlie Barber. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Phyle."
