Skipper Horne's Goose Cooked -- Fired in Mackinac Island Wednesday, October 14th , 1914 Mackinac Island is now without a skipper after the announcement of manager Ron Horne's firing earlier today. Sources close to the Stone Skippers are saying that Horne had lost the confidence of the players and had allowed apathy and selfishness to take over the clubhouse. The Mackinac Island front office was unavailable for comment on the matter other than to confirm the manager's firing. A BNN poll done immediately after the announcement went public showed fan reaction seems mixed. "Glad that bum is gone," said one disgruntled fan. Several others were displeased with the decision, telling reporters, "Horne did the best he could with the talent and money he had." No timetable has been set by the team for announcing a replacement. |
