Whelan Razor-Sharp, Shuts Out Juncos Monday, July 13th , 1914 Lynagh Whelan kept the opposition off the scoreboard and the Rio Grande Zarzas were all smiles after winning, 3-0, against the Juncos Chiringas at Parquecito de Río Grande. The right-handed Whelan gave up no runs in his start, permitted 3 hits, and tallied 4 strikeouts. "If there was a stat for 'team shutout,' this would be it," Whelan said later. "My catcher called a great game, guys delivered at the plate and when I messed something up the guys behind me were where they needed to be."
