Sabana Grande-Hormigueros Brawl, Chaim and Díaz Suspended Monday, September 14th , 1914 Yesterday at Parquecito de Hormigueros Wei Chaim and Pío Díaz got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Sabana Grande Tramantes and Hormigueros Companeros. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Chaim will have to sit out 4 while Díaz would be given a 5-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This season, Chaim has banged out 74 hits in 260 at-bats for a .285 average with 1 home run. He is getting on base at a .351 pace and his totals also include 24 RBIs and 27 runs scored. To date, Díaz has a 10-10 mark in 20 starts with a 5.01 ERA. He has given up 186 hits in 151 innings, struck out 86 and issued 66 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .299 batting average against him. |
