Zero Hour: Velásquez Blanks Hakuchoh Tuesday, September 1st , 1914 All went well for Acacio Velásquez of the Yamatokoriyama Kingyo as he pitched his team to a shutout victory, 6-0, over the Niigata Hakuchoh, limiting them to 7 hits. In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Velásquez on the day. "Acacio's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy," said Kingyo manager Mike Mansell. "He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful." In the contest, the Yamatokoriyama right-hander rang up 8 and surrendered 3 walks. "He didn't give us any second chances," said Hakuchoh manager Propercio Salazar. "It's a guessing game with him and today we were always guessing wrong."
