Both teams had their chances, but the Maricao Cafeteros eventually prevailed.

The Maricao Cafeteros topped the Juncos Valencianos, 4-3, in Liga Betances action at Parque de los Cafeteros. The standout performance belonged to Maricao pitcher and Yauco, Puerto Rico, native Héctor Gutiérrez. Gutiérrez yielded 3 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 7-1.

Had Bill McDormand not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, McDormand hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Cafeteros.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," McDormand told the Maricao Chronicle.

The Cafeteros, now 21-8, have been sizzling early on.
