Héctor Varela Records 100th Save, Tames Ceiba, 4-3
|
One of the most important elements of a baseball team is its relief specialist -- the guy who comes in late in the game in crucial situations to stop rallies, and perhaps most of all, to close out the win. That's exactly what Héctor Varela does, and does very well.
The Naguabo bullpen ace copped his 100th career save today at Estadio Rolando Sandoval. He shut down the Ceiba Picudos and saved the Navegadores 4-3 victory. Varela pitched 0.1 innings, gave up no runs, and allowed no hits to etch his name in the Liga Nacional Puertorriquena record book.
In 203 career games, Varela has a 11-10 mark with a 0.91 ERA. He has struck out 165 and earned 100 saves.
