Hortensio Galicia, who finished 3rd in the LH in ERA with 1.82 in 1905, never let the Ilustres get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Capitanes to a win, 3-1. Galicia, the winner, moves to 21-11. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up no walks. Yann Bourgeois notched his 16th save in 23 chances.
Justo Treviño had a timely hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two out and a runner on 3rd, the Mayaguez third baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Capitanes in front, 2-1.
"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Galicia.
Mayaguez is now 82-62, 2 games up in the Liga Hostos Oeste.
