Gallegos Gets Number 1000
Guayanilla's Gelmiro Gallegos got the standing ovation -- but the Guaynabo Libertadores got the win.

It was a special day for him at Parque de los Eléctricos. A day when Gallegos notched hit #1000 of his career. The fans went wild when he did. Even the Libertadores fans applauded.

The Electricos second baseman went 3-for-3 in a losing cause as Guaynabo spoiled the party with the 6-4 victory.

In the postgame interview, a downhearted Gallegos told the media, "We lost -- It's not about individual accomplishments -- we lost."

When pressed further, he admitted his pride in reaching the 1000-hit mark, "A lot of great players never get there. I'm proud, but I would be happier if we had won."

His all-time numbers show Gallegos is carrying a .288 career batting average with 7 home runs and 430 RBIs.
