Two good teams met in a late-season showdown.

Héctor Gutiérrez, who is tied for 6th in the LB with a 1.73 ERA, was terrific for the Maricao Cafeteros in his team's 4-0 triumph over the Vega Baja Caneros. His performance earned Gutiérrez rave reviews. The first-place Cafeteros are now 89-69, the Caneros 89-69.

Maricao used the timely hitting of Casiodoro Delgado to capture the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cafeteros on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.

"Héctor gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Maricao skipper Cristón Ibarra.
