Coquis Take Nail-Biter Over Brillantes

The Naranjito Brillantes got a sterling performance from pitcher Eugenio Ponce, but the Caguas Coquis still prevailed, 2-1. Ponce threw 9.1 innings of 7-hit ball. Caguas reliever Jesús González picked up the win to move to 8-2. Raúl Mora suffered the loss. Caguas sits in second place in the Liga Hostos Valle del Turabo at 83-81.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 14th, Rodolfo Salamanca wanted to seize the moment and deliver a clutch hit. Naranjito pitcher Segundo Peña had other ideas. He wanted to end the Caguas rally. What happened next? With no outs, Salamanca drew a walk, driving in 1 run -- and the Coquis erupted in celebration.
"The most important thing is that we won," Salamanca said.
