The Aguada Arzobispos faced a tough opponent in Patillas Cuervos pitcher René Calva, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Serie Eliminatoria, which they now lead 1-0. The Arzobispos won, 7-4, at Campo Atletico de San Benito, despite the Cuervos getting a strong start from right-hander Calva, who went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Manuel Lantigua was at the plate when Aguada scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Arzobispos to go in front, 5-4.

"Nice win for us," said Lantigua. "Now we'll go after the next one."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Campo Atletico de San Benito in Patillas.
