Velázquez Excels, San Marcos Blows Out Waco
The San Marcos Cadavers began the 1908 season with a convincing 15-1 win over the Waco Mammoths at Cadavers Park. Most impressive was San Marcos center fielder Evaristo Velázquez, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Javier Cortez, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Waco to 1 run on 4 hits over 9 innings, while racking up 12 strikeouts.

Guiomar Segura chipped in a 3-run home run for San Marcos in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI.
