"It would have been a lot nicer if my 1500th hit had won the game," said Balbino Cruz after the Guayanilla Electricos had been tripped up by the Hormigueros Romeros, 3-0, spoiling his big day. The Electricos right fielder gained access to the exclusive 1500-hit club by going 2-for-3 in the game played at Parque Municipal Édgar Cabrera.

"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Cruz said to the press after the game. "I think even the Romeros fans were cheering me."

During his career, Cruz has played in 1417 games, batted .285 with 8 home runs and 1501 base hits.
