Razor-Sharp Rangel Blanks Barre
The Barre Headstones had no answer for Burlington Lightermen pitcher Cristino Rangel. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 4-0. Barre managed only 1 hit off Rangel, who had 5 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Rangel got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Lightermen fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

This year, Rangel has recorded a 17-12 mark. In 31 starts he has fanned 200 batters in 254.1 innings with a 3.29 ERA.
