San Sebastian's Martínez Gets 1000th Hit
Luis Martínez's bat made good contact with the ball as he has many times in his career, but this time it added his name to an elite list of players with 1000 hits.

"This is a tremendous honor. You grow up dreaming of becoming a Liga Nacional Puertorriquena player, but never did I ever think I would get to this point," an emotional Martínez said after the game.

The San Sebastian left fielder went to the plate 3 times and racked up 1 hit to gain the honor. But the Pepinos couldn't pull off a win -- they fell to the Anasco Matadioses, 4-1.

"It certainly would have been nice to have won, but tomorrow is another day. I'm going to enjoy this moment with my friends and family," Martínez said.

Checking out his career figures, Martínez has played in 954 games with a .278 batting average. Among his 1000 hits are 12 home runs. He has also scored 485 runs, stolen 132 bases, and driven in 391 runs.
