The Mayaguez Capitanes knocked off the Barranquitas Ilustres, 4-2, in Liga Hostos action at Coliseo Atlético del Oeste. Mayaguez pitcher and Carrickfergus, Ireland, native Ronit Robinson had an outstanding performance. The winner was Robinson. He threw 8.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was Sandalio Rocha. The third-place Ilustres now sit at 22-36.

The Capitanes got a big at-bat from second baseman Etaoin Shrdlu. For the game, Shrdlu was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 6th double of the season gave Mayaguez a 4-2 lead.

"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Mayaguez manager Alberto Contreras.
