Campeonato de las Ligas Game 1 Goes to Monterrey, Thanks to Medina
|
The Monterrey Cerveceros started the Campeonato de las Ligas in style, downing the visiting Guanajuato Libertadores at Parque de Monterrey by a score of 5-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Cerveceros right-hander Germán Medina threw 8.2 innings allowing 2 runs.
Felipe Félix's at-bat in the bottom of the seventh was significant, coming with runners on 1st and 2nd and the game tied, 2-2. The Monterrey pinch hitter hit a run-scoring single off Adán Acosta to put the Cerveceros up.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Cerveceros manager Ricardo López said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Parque de Monterrey in Monterrey.
