The Holguin Pericos defeated the Trinidad Tabacaleros, 16-10, in Game 1 of the Campeonato Interdivisional. A big contributor was right fielder Bonifacio Sánchez, who was 3-6 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The win moves Holguin into a 1-0 lead in the series.

The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Sánchez delivered big-time for Holguin, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Diego Torres. The game-changing hit put the Pericos on top, 12-10.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Sánchez. "And not try to do too much."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Campo de los Tabacaleros in Trinidad.
