The Rio Grande Cotorras had to overcome a fine effort from Luquillo pitcher Ramón Chávez to win, 3-2, at Recinto Atlético del Noreste. Chávez went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Ezequiel Vásquez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Alrigo Chávez was tagged with the loss. Rio Grande has a record of 6-2.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Rio Grande center fielder Rob McCarthy, facing Alrigo Chávez, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Cotorras the 3-2 win.
"We've been playing some good baseball," McCarthy told the Rio Grande Times. "We're aggressive and focused on what we're going to do on the field and getting it done."
