Delgado, Crepusculares Take Dramatic Game 2 for 2-0 Series Lead
|
The Barquisimeto Crepusculares moved to within one game of the Campeonato de las Ligas, downing the Maracaibo Independientes, 1-0, in a tense, extra-inning affair at Barquisimeto Stadium. Leading the way for the Crepusculares was right-hander Esteban Delgado. He threw 11.0 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Crepusculares a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Serie Eliminatoria.
Batting in the bottom of the 11th, three-time All-Star José Angot had a real shot to win the game. Maracaibo pitcher Luis Almodóvar was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Angot hit a run-scoring single. The Crepusculares had a walk-off triumph.
"I had my mind made up to go the distance," said Delgado.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Barquisimeto Stadium in Barquisimeto.
