Barranquitas turned a good performance from starting pitcher Poncio Vela into a 4-2 triumph over the Trujillo Alto Macabeos at Estadio Plinio Cortez. Enrique Bueso finished the game for Barranquitas and earned his 9th save. The Ilustres now have a record of 33-35 with the win over Trujillo Alto.

Florentino Orozco had a big 2-run home run for the Ilustres in the bottom of the third inning. With Barranquitas leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a changeup from 37-year old right-handed pitcher Germán Bencosme and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Ilustres on top, 4-0.

"When Poncio is on, he can really move the ball around," said Barranquitas manager Honesto Vásquez.
