Caciques Earn Late Win
|
Starting pitcher Virgilio González took care of business, helping the Orocovis Caciques stifle the Cabo Rojo Combatientes, 1-0. González, now 9-8, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Gabriel Reyna closed the door for Orocovis, picking up his 8th save of the year.
Álvar Guillén, who finished 3rd in the LB in extra base hits with 72 in 1901, had a direct impact on the outcome. Guillén contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Orocovis up, 1-0.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Guillén told the Orocovis Observer. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
With the win over Cabo Rojo, the Caciques improved to 42-41.
