Matadioses Lose, 5-2, to Mayaguez
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Mayaguez and Anasco from playing their scheduled game.
The Mayaguez Capitanes knocked off the Anasco Matadioses, 5-2, in Liga Hostos action at Jardines de los Matadioses. Mayaguez pitcher and Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, native Fausto Souza had an outstanding performance. In 7.2 innings, Souza surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs.
Darren Lynch helped out the Mayaguez cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the designated hitter went 1-4.
Mayaguez manager Alberto Contreras was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
Mayaguez now sits at 49-36, while Anasco falls to 44-45.
