Mercaderes Take Down Matadioses, 3-2

The Villalba Mercaderes locked up a win at Estadio Noé Martínez, knocking off the Anasco Matadioses, 3-2. On the mound for Villalba was left-hander Gaudencio Favela. He played a major role in the triumph. Villalba's record now stands at 40-54, placing them third in the Liga Hostos Metro Sur.
Villalba used the timely hitting of Gerardo Rodríguez to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mercaderes on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll pocket this win," said Rodríguez, "and then go after another."
