Though the conditions were not ideal, the Hormigueros Romeros and Rio Grande Cotorras came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Hormigueros Romeros downed the Rio Grande Cotorras, 7-1, at Parque de los Romeros. Stellar pitching by Diego Ramírez had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. The winning pitcher was Ramírez, now 1-2. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 3. Alfonso Pérez earned the save for Hormigueros, his 2nd.
Virgilio González was a prime contributor to the Hormigueros win. He went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth with one out, the 24-year old shortstop hit a 2-run single. It made the score 4-1, in favor of the Romeros.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Ramírez.
After today's action, Hormigueros sits at 47-60, while Rio Grande falls to 63-40.
