Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Villalba Mercaderes and Naranjito Brillantes.

The exploits of right fielder Darby Scott helped the Villalba Mercaderes defeat the Naranjito Brillantes, 8-2. Scott went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Heraclio Solorio picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Vicente Melchor suffered the loss.

Tied up with the Brillantes in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Mercaderes got a boost from shortstop Arthur Coates. With the bases loaded, Coates saw a first pitch sinker from Vicente Melchor and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Villalba on top, 4-2.

"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Báquides Zamora told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."

Villalba sits in third place in the Liga Hostos Metro Sur at 47-58.
