Lobos Defeated, 8-5, After Salinas Rallies
|
At Estadio Municipal de Arecibo, the Arecibo Lobos and Salinas Pescadores were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Arecibo Lobos could not turn a fine performance from center fielder Francisco Vásquez into a win. Instead, the Salinas Pescadores prevailed, 8-5. Vásquez was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Salinas, at 51-54, holds down first place in the Liga Betances Metro Sur.
Salinas used a timely hit from Martín Padilla to get the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pescadores ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Padilla.
