There was no shortage of dramatics at Estadio Gilberto Martínez.

The performance of Justino Garza proved critical in helping Guanica beat Toa Baja, 8-7, in 12 innings. The Amigos catcher went 3-5 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The winner in relief was Miguel Valles. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0.

Coming to the plate with two out in the bottom of the 12th inning, Guanica shortstop Eleuterio de la Cruz had a chance to be the hero. Facing Toa Baja pitcher Raúl Ballesteros with runners on 2nd and 3rd, de la Cruz hit a run-scoring single.

"This is truly a great team to play with," Garza said after the game. "We're like brothers, and when we come together to pull out the win, that just makes it all the better."

The first-place Amigos, at 78-31, lead the Liga Hostos Suroeste by 10 games.
