Villalba and Guayama played a hard-fought contest.
The Villalba Mercaderes picked up a win at Estadio de Guayama, dropping the Guayama Hechiceros, 3-2. Efraín Barreiro was the difference-maker. Nicolás García finished to wrap up his 3rd save.
Villalba used a timely hit from Darby Scott to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mercaderes ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"When you have a good rhythm and good flow, it's nice to just go out there and pound the strike zone with confidence," said Barreiro.
The third-place Mercaderes lifted their record to 57-69.
