Artilleros Get Clutch Win Versus Rio Grande
|
The Maunabo Artilleros downed the Rio Grande Cotorras, 5-4, at Recinto Atlético del Sureste. Deasún McCarthy led the way, going 2-for-3 for Maunabo. Harland Wadden picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-5 on the season. He struck out 2 and walked 2 in 8.2 innings, while yielding 4 runs. Avelino Saldívar finished the game for Maunabo and earned his 3rd save.
In the bottom of the 8th, catcher Samuel Bautista gave Maunabo the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Artilleros had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out single off Rio Grande pitcher Carmelo Castillo changed that -- and Maunabo went on to win.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Maunabo manager Ruairí Graves.
Rio Grande now owns a losing streak of 5 games.
