The home crowd had a good time watching the Santa Isabel Corceles and San Juan Metropolitanos get after it.
The San Juan Metropolitanos picked up a win at Estadio Capitolino, knocking off the Santa Isabel Corceles, 8-4. On the mound for San Juan was right-hander Ildefonso Espinoza. He played a key role in the triumph. Espinoza went the distance for San Juan. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Itbir Jaafar came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Santa Isabel pitcher Abelardo Soto, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Juan on top, 5-4.
"Ildefonso had good arm action, good stuff," said San Juan manager Gus Alberts.
The win puts San Juan at 68-66 this season.
