|
The Vega Alta Martilleros racked up a win at Recinto Ramón Araujo, bumping off the Canovanas Chupacabras, 6-3. Cicerón Peláez, who started for Vega Alta, pitched effectively for his team. Peláez got the win, improving to 7-17. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Kavan Neligan closed it out for Vega Alta, earning his 5th save.
Vega Alta designated hitter Félix Chavaña contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a changeup to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 138th hit of the season and put the Martilleros ahead, 2-0.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Chavaña told the Vega Alta Citizen.
At 49-88, the Martilleros find themselves in third place in the Liga Betances Costa Norteña.
