The Hormigueros Romeros could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ricardo Ramírez into a win. Instead, the Vega Baja Caneros prevailed, 8-5. Ramírez came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters. Picking up the win was Jean Rivière. He went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 12 hits. The right--hander struck out 4 and walked 1. The win brings the Caneros to 15-9, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Vega Baja center fielder Ignacio Ortiz contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a changeup to right field for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Caneros ahead, 8-0.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Ortiz, "and then get after it again."
