Salinas Skunked by Fontánez, 2-0 Friday, October 23rd , 1914 In an outstanding mound performance, Vega Baja Caneros starter Fernando Fontánez fired a complete-game shutout against the Salinas Pescadores at Estadio Mateo Silva. Fontánez was the key to the 2-0 Vega Baja win. The 29-year-old right-hander was in high spirits for much of the game, his mood largely unfazed by the 3 hits and 1 walk he allowed. "3 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter, as long as it was a shutout."
