Christy Mathewson of the Baltimore Orioles proved the point at Union Park, holding the New York Giants to 2 hits in a complete game shutout victory. "Mathewson made us look real bad today," Giants manager James Roseman said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking." Mathewson had 8 strikeouts and gave up no walks as the Orioles took the 1-0 win. This year, Mathewson has gone 9-8 with an ERA of 2.32 and has 97 strikeouts in 162.2 innings.
